Gohar Jageer

Gohar Jageer is a village situated in Tehsil and District kasur, Pakistan. It is located in south west of Kasur city. It is also spelled as Gohar Jagir. A vast majority of the people of this village belong to Arain caste. Most of its inhabitants are linked with agriculture while few others are engaged in different businesses, government and private jobs. It is situated on the bank of Bambanwala-Ravi-Bedian canal commonly known as BRB canal. Its population is approximately six thousand. It is 40 km away from Kasur city, and 20 km away from Khudian khas.

Villages around Gohar Jageer are Tatara kamil, kili Sokal, Mahalam, Rajowal, and Noor pur. On its western side, a town namely mandi Usman Wala is situated. There is no healthcare facility in this settlement. It is situated in the midst of fertile agriculture land. Wheat, rice, corn and potato are major crops which are grown in this area. Previously, sugarcane crop was also widely cultivated in this area but nowadays nobody takes interest in it because of certain reasons.

1. Government boys primary school (GPS):

There is one boys primary school in Gohar Jagir. It was established almost sixty years ago during the regime of General Ayyub khan, the then President of Pakistan. This school remained without a boundary wall for almost fifty years and few years ago it finally got its boundary wall. Since its inception, it has produced many brilliant students who are serving in various government and private organizations. Some of the honorable teachers who remained associated with this school are Muhammad Yousaf(Late), Sardar Ali Alias Mehboob(Late), Muhammad Aslam(Late), Muhammad Yahya and Muhammad Salim.

2. Government Girls primary school GGPS:

There is one girls primary school in this village. It was established in 1990’s. Educated women play an important part in the upbringing of children. No nation can progress without educated women. This school has imparted education to many girls since its inception.

Famous “Khu” in Gohar Jageer:

It is a punjabi term for a water well or wheel well which were used in past for the pupose of irrigation. With the passage of time, these have become part of history and tube wells have taken their place. Following are some of the famous Khu of this village:

Water and sanitation:

There is a Government water tanky and water filteration plant in Gohar jageer which were constructed with special efforts of Agha Naveed Hashim Rizvi, the then Tehsil Nazim of Kasur and Mujahid Muhammad yaqub, the then Naib Nazim of union council Usman wala. Clean drinking water is a blessing for the people of this town. Many surrounding villages are deprived of this facility. Like other rural areas, sanitation system of this village is not properly developed.

No Health Centre in Gohar jageer:

There is no basic health unit (BHU), Rural health centre (RHC) or any dispensary in this settlement. This is a serious issue and Gohar jagir being a village of huge population, deserves having basic health unit etc. People have to go to Mandi Usman wala for seeking emergency medical treatment and patients having serious health issues are referred to district headquarter hospital, Kasur.

Roads and Infrastructure:

Its roads generally remained in good condition but since last few years, no development schemes have been approved for this area and due to this reason, most of its main roads have become damaged. People have to suffer worst situation during rain spells due to severe mud and water on roads. Main entrance bridge on BRB canal is also not in good condition and is too narrow, only one vehicle can pass through it easily at a time.

Politics:

Politics is a topic of interest for many people of this village. In every local Government election, many candidates belonging to this village take part in elections.
