Torghar is a district in Hazara Division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan. Its total area is about 454 square kilometers, consisting largely of hilly and mountainous terrain. It was previously known as Kala Dhaka and remained administratively part of Mansehra before being given district status. Most of its residents belong to the Yousafzai Pashtun tribe and follow traditional tribal customs. Torghar was declared a separate district in 2011 to improve administration and service delivery. Tehsils of Torghar District:
There are following three Tehsils of Torghar District:
- Tehsil Daur Mera. Its area is 86 Sq. Km. According to 2023 census, its population is 50,503.
- Tehsil Judba. Its area is 63 Sq. Km. According to 2023 census, its population is 63,083.
- Tehsil Khander. Its area is 305 Sq. Km. According to 2023 census its population is 86,859.
Population:
According to the 2023 population census, Torghar District has a total population of 200,445 people, living in 29,417 households, with an average household size of about 6.8 persons, reflecting the joint family system common in the area. In comparison, the population recorded in the 2017 census was 171,349, showing a noticeable increase over the years. This growth indicates gradual demographic expansion, influenced by natural population growth and improving living conditions, while the district continues to retain its predominantly rural and traditional character.
Villages in Torghar District:
There are 97 villages or rural localities in Torghar District, reflecting its predominantly rural settlement pattern. According to the 2023 census, five of these rural towns have a population of 5,000 or more, indicating relatively larger population centers within the district. Additionally, 38 villages have populations ranging between 2,000 and 5,000, while 27 villages fall in the population bracket of 1,000 to 1,999 residents.
Furthermore, 19 villages of Torghar have populations between 500 and 999 inhabitants, showing that a significant number of settlements are small and sparsely populated, characteristic of the district’s hilly and mountainous geography.
